Samsung Pounds Chest as World's Largest Display Maker

Samsung may be losing the patent war with Apple, but it's winning the display market in convincing fashion. In fact, now that Samsung has begun doing business as a newly merged corporation with Samsung Mobile Display and S-LCD corporation, the company claims it's the world's largest display maker.

"Samsung Display is destined to attain virtually unlimited growth, through continuous efforts to combine our proven know-how in the display field with an overwhelming creative spirit," said Oh-hyun Kwon, vice chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics. "“Our combined strengths will guide Samsung’s display business through the next decade and longer, in turning the many synergistic benefits of the company into far-reaching, tangible results."

Over 39,000 employees work for Samsung Display, spread across seven facilities around the globe. With the merger now in place, Samsung said it plans to combine OLED production technology with precision large panel operations, seemingly an indication that affordable large screen OLED TVs could become a reality in the near future.
