Samsung Rumors Point to Impending Launch of Galaxy S5 Phone Featuring an Eye Scanner

Consumers must be getting antsy in anticipation of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 launch, hence why there have been so many rumors lately. Just last week, there was chatter suggesting Samsung's next flagship smartphone would use a "new material" and also a sensor, and now we're hearing that it may also include an eye scanning tool.

According to Bloomberg, Samsung is batting around the idea of implementing an eye scanner in the Galaxy S5  to compete with Apple's iPhone 5S, which itself using a fingerprint scanner. Apparently we're in the era of biometrics on mobile devices, or at least that's what the two biggest players are pushing these days.

"Many people are fanatical about iris recognition technology. We are studying the possibility but can't really say whether we will have it or not on the S5," Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of mobile at Samsung, is quoted as saying at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The report also quotes Hee as saying the Galaxy S5 will be paired with a brand new wearable device representing an evolution of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, though details are sparse at the moment.

All will become clear soon enough. According to Bloomberg, Hee confirmed Samsung is still on track to launch the Galaxy S5 in the first half of of the year, and specifically around March or April.
