Samsung Series 5 Chromebook Now Shipping, Are You In?

Do you know what today is? You could answer 'Wednesday' or 'June 15, 2011' both of which would be correct responses. But it's also the day that, at long last, the first notebooks built around Google's Chrome OS are shipping. We're of course talking about Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook, and if you missed out on ordering through Gilt a couple of weeks ago, now's your chance to jump on the Chrome OS bandwagon.

Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook is available at Best Buy and Amazon.com, and will set you back $430 if all you want is Wi-Fi connectivity, or $500 if you want the 3G radio. The relatively high price (compared to low end 15.6-inch notebooks) will put Google's Chrome OS to the test.

The Chromebook can best be described as an oversized netbook. It sports a 12.1-inch display, Intel Atom N570 processor (dual-core, 1.66GHz), 16GB solid state drive, 2GB of memory, two USB 2.0 ports, 4-in-1 memory card reader, VGA output, stereo speakers, 1MP webcam, full-sized keyboard, 6-cell battery, and of course the Chrome operating system.

Show of hands, who plans on picking one up?
