Samsung Stratosphere Soars Onto Verizon's LTE Network For $149

You have to suspect that companies are running out of clever names for devices when Samsung and Verizon Wireless settle on "Stratosphere" for their latest high-end smartphone. This particular handset is a member of the rapidly-expanding Galaxy S line, boasting a 4" Super AMOLED Display, 1GHz processor, a 5-row QWERTY keyboard, B2B-enabled connectivity services from Cisco and a 4G LTE radio. The Stratosphere will support Samsung’s Enterprise Platform enhancements such as VPN, encryption and Mobile Device Management (MDM), and it'll come equipped with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, direct push, email, calendar, contact sync, Global Address List (GAL) as well as EAS policies including storage card encryption, device encryption and simple & complex password support, all essential for streamlining business on the smartphone.

As for the OS? It's Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), pushed by a Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor. Those are joined by a 1.3MP video chat cam up front, a 5MP rear cam, Mobile Hotspot capability, DLNA sharing, Bluetooth 3.0, DivX / XviD support and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. The Samsung Stratosphere will be available on Oct. 13 in Verizon Wireless Communication Stores and online, with a $149.99 price tag that applies after a $50 mail in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.  Customers that purchase a Samsung Stratosphere smartphone will need to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan beginning at $39.99 for monthly access and a smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2 GB of data.
