Samsung Unpacks Three New Galaxy Note 10 Flagships And We Go Hands-On
All three devices will incorporate the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor in the United States, shooting down rumors that we had heard to the contrary. Devices available for sale outside of the United States will feature Samsung's new 7nm Exynos 9825 SoC. The Galaxy Note 10 will include 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage. The Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G will incorporate 12GB RAM and will come in 256GB and 512GB variants. Galaxy Note 10+ users will also be able to add a microSD card for up to 1TB of additional storage. The Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ will support 4G LTE, while the 5G version will naturally require an excellent 5G connection. All devices support Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth, and accommodate up to 1.2Gbps download speeds.
Galaxy Note 10 And Note 10+ Display and Design
The Galaxy Note 10 features a 6.3-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display, while the Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10 5G come with a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display. All three displays are HDR10+ certified. The Galaxy Note 10 display is the slimmest and lightest Samsung flagship device. It measures 71.8 x 151.0 x 7.9mm and weighs 168 grams. The Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G are not quite as small, but they are also easy to handle. They measure 77.2 x 162.3 x 7.9mm and weigh 196 grams.All three devices include a edge-to-edge Cinematic Infinity Display. Samsung has designed these devices so that users can focus on the task at hand without any distractions. The front-facing camera is on the top-center of the device and is one of the only notable “distractions” on the nearly bezel-less display.
The displays’ brightness was also created with productivity in mind. The screen will be easy to see regardless of a user’s lighting situation. Photos and videos will reportedly be brighter and colors will be more vibrant.The display was particularly designed for field workers and others who find themselves in multiple environments.
The devices include stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos surround sound technology. Each device will come with Type-C plug earphones. All three devices will naturally be compatible with a wide variety of audio playback and video formats.
Galaxy Note 10 And Note 10+ Battery Capacity And Charging
The Galaxy Note 10 includes a 3,500mAh and the other two devices will contain a 4,500mAh battery. Users will reportedly be able to get through their entire day with just thirty minutes of charging. The devices will also feature standard wireless charging and Wireless Power Share, but these features will be a bit more slow-going. Users will be able to wirelessly charge devices such as the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds with their Note device, but this will also be a bit slower than wired charging. A 25-watt charger with a USB-C cable comes in the box, but consumers will be able to pick up a 45-watt charger separately. The 45-watt charger will only work with Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G devices.
S Pen and Air Actions
The Galaxy Note 10 family includes a brand new Samsung feature -- Air Actions. The S Pen can now be used to control various actions on the device with air gestures. Many of the gestures are built into various native apps like the camera. Users will swipe left, right, up, down, or rotate to control their app. For example, in a demo, the user was able to rotate their S Pen to zoom their device’s camera in and out. Developers will be able to customize their own controls with the Air Actions SDK as well.
It is important to note that the Air Actions currently only work with the S Pen. Users will need to press down on a side button on the S Pen before making their gesture and release the button to complete it. We found the the Air Actions took a little bit of time to get used to, but we will be able to provide more information in a future article.
Thankfully, the S Pen has been reconfigured and features a “unibody” design. The S Pen is therefore more robust and easier to use. It will be interesting to see how these Air Actions compare to Google’s Pixel 4 motion sense gesture technology which only reportedly require movement.
Note 10 Camera And Editing Features
Samsung has now confirmed what many have suspected-- The Galaxy Note 10 devices will have a total of four cameras. All three devices will incorporate a 10MP front-facing camera and a ultra-wide 16MP, (f/2.2), a wide-angle 12MP (f/1.5/2.4), and a telephoto 12 MP (f/2.1) rear-facing camera.Samsung particularly focused on creating photo and video editing tools that could be used by regular consumers, entrepreneurs, and businesses. Their new “Live Focus Video” feature allows users to blur the background and focus on a particular person or item. “Night mode” is ideal for low-light environments. The “Zoom-In Mic” will improve the audio and minimize background noises, while the “Super Steady” feature will stabilize footage. These features could all be very useful in the workplace, especially businesses that rely on social media. For example, “Live Focus Video” could allow users to focus their viewers’ attention on a particular product. The “Zoom-In Mic” feature would be great for musicians or live events.
Many of the new video and photo resources can be used with the S Pen. The “AR Doodle” helps users to draw effects and illustrations that track to the image. This could be a fun feature to use on Instagram, but it could also help in the workplace. As an example, the AR Doodle feature could be useful for engineers and construction workers. They could take a few seconds of video and then draw on necessary features and measurements. Enterprise users will also enjoy the 3D Scanner, measures 3D objects. The 3D Scanner will only be available on the Galaxy Note 10+ and Note 10+ 5G. Samsung hopes that in the future users will be able to also manipulate the 3D item on screen.
Users will also be able to edit their photos and videos with the S Pen. The “Screen Recorder” allows users to make frame-by-frame edits. These edits can include animations, illustrations, and closed captions. Users who need more editing power will be able to download Adobe Rush. Adobe Rush has been optimized for the Galaxy Note 10 family and will work well with the S Pen.
Note 10 Family Productivity Features
Samsung has added and improved several features for the workplace. Samsung Notes now converts handwriting to text. These texts can then be exported to other formats like a Word document or PDF and shared in a variety of ways. Users will also be able to change the size and color of their text as well. This app will be compatible with the S Pen.
The Galaxy Note 10 family is also meant for those who work on multiple devices or in multiple locations. Samsung DeX for PC allows users to connect their Galaxy Note 10 device to a PC or Mac via a USB-C connection. Users can use their mobile apps with a mouse and keyboard and drag and drop files between the two connected devices. Users will also be able to link their Note 10 to a Windows device. They will be able to receive notifications, receive messages, and look at recent photos on their Windows device.
The Galaxy Note 10 family will naturally be deeply integrated into the existing Galaxy ecosystem. Users will be able to take advantage of Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, and Bixby. They will also benefit from Samsung Knox, Samsung’s mobile security platform.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 And Note 10+ Price and Availability
The Galaxy Note 10 starts at $949.99 USD, while the Galaxy Note 10+ will ring in at $1099.99 USD. The devices will be available in Aura Glow, Aura White and Aura Black at most retailers, but the Aura Blue variant will only be available at Best Buy and Samsung.com. The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ launch on August 23rd. The Galaxy Note10+ 5G will only be available through Verizon Wireless on August 23rd and will launch with Spring and T-Mobile on a later date. There is currently no information about pricing for this particular device. There is also no word yet about international availability for all three devices.
