It seems as though everyone is out to paint a target on Microsoft’s back when it comes to challenging the likes of the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. Samsung is the latest to rise to the occasion with the unwrapping of the Galaxy Book 12 and Galaxy Book 10. Both tablets run Windows 10 and are backed by 12-inch and 10.6-inch displays respectively.

The flagship Galaxy Book 12 comes with a Super AMOLED display that has a resolution of 2160x1440. The display also supports 10-bit HDR, which should help videos and other digital content spring to life. This high-end tablet is powered by the latest Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 processors (no fan required) and can be equipped with either 4GB or 8GB of memory. Opting for the former will get you a 128GB SSD, while the latter is paired up with a 256GB SSD. Whichever configuration you choose, there’s a microSD slot that supports up to 256GB of storage.

Both Wi-Fi (802.11ac) and LTE (Cat 6) models will be available, and Bluetooth 4.1 LE is also along for the ride. A 13MP camera is on the rear of the device, while a 5MP unit handles front-facing duties. High-end main cameras aren’t typically “must have” items on a tablet, but it’s nice to see that Samsung is at least playing lip service here. Also onboard is a 39 WHr battery that is good for up to 10.5 hours of runtime, and supports quick charging through its USB-C port.

The Galaxy Book 10, on the other hand, is a step down thanks to its smaller TFT display and 1920x1280 screen resolution. You won’t find HDR support here, and the Core i5 has been tossed in favor of a more economical (and power thrifty) Kaby Lake-based Core m3 processor that is paired with just 4GB of memory in all configurations. You can opt for either 64GB or 128GB eMMC storage and expand upon that with a microSD slot.

Like the Galaxy Book 12, the Galaxy Book 10 is available in Wi-Fi and LTE models, but you won’t find a rear camera this time around. Instead, only the 5MP front-facing camera is available on the entry-level convertible. The smaller frame of the Galaxy Book 10 also means that battery capacity has been reduced to 30 WHr, which is good for up to 10 hours of runtime.

Both Galaxy Book models come with a Pogo keyboard in the box that doesn’t need to be separately charged or paired with the tablet to function.

If you prefer Android for your tablet needs, Samsung also has you covered there. The Galaxy Tab S3 is the successor to the Galaxy Tab S2, and comes with a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048x1536. Like the Galaxy Book 12, it also supports HDR. Powering the tablet is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor (which is getting a bit on the crusty side these days), which is complemented by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. A microSD slot can boost your storage by another 256GB if you need it.

Other niceties include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, optional LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, Android 7.0 Nougat and a 6000 mAh battery with fast charging support (through the bottom-mounted USB-C port).

All three tablets come configured with Samsung Flow software, which allows for a “safe and secure login experience" using biometric authentication. It can also securely and wirelessly connect with your smartphone to transfer documents and sync messages across devices. In addition, all of the tablets come with a new, more refined S Pen which supports 4,000+ levels of pressure sensitivity. On the downside, there’s no silo to hold the pen when it’s not in use, so you’ll have to keep a close eye on it when you’re on-the-go.

Pricing and availability for the Samsung Galaxy Book 12, Galaxy Book 10 and Galaxy Tab S3 has not been provided at this time, although we’ll definitely keep you posted as soon as we find out those details.
