Samsung Unveils Mid-Range 2016 Galaxy A Series Smartphones With Samsung Pay Support
Samsung is bringing its premium design philosophy over to its mid-range line of smartphones, the newest of which will also feature its mobile payment technology called Samsung Pay. They include three new handsets for 2016: Galaxy A7 with a 5.5-inch display, Galaxy A5 with a 5.2-inch display, and Galaxy A3 with a 4.7-inch display.
Both the Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A5 sport a Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) resolution, so the number of pixels is the same, they'll just be more densely packed on the Galaxy A5. The 4.7-inch Galaxy A3 is the sole deviator with an HD (1280x720) display. All three are Super AMOLED panels, which historically tend to produce bright and accurate colors.
The Galaxy A7 is the burliest of all three. It has a 1.6GHz octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization around back, 5-megapixel camera up front, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC support, fingerprint scanner, and a 3,300 mAh battery with Fast Charging support. It will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Specs are nearly the same for the Galaxy A5, save for less RAM (2GB) and a less capacious battery (2,900 mAh).
The Galaxy A3 gets a 1.5GHz quad-core processor that's paired with 1.5GB of RAM. Further separating it from the other two is a lack of a fingerprint scanner and optical image stabilization for the rear shooter, and a smaller battery at 2,300 mAh.
The 2016 model Galaxy A handsets will be available in China around the middle of the month, followed by a global launch sometime after.
