Samsung Updates TecTile NFC App With New Capabilities

When we reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S III back in June, we had a chance to look at a cool use of NFC technology using Samsung's TecTile programmable NFC stickers and the corresponding TecTile Android app. Now, Samsung is updating the TecTile application to version 3.0. This new version is available just in time to be used with Samsung's latest NFC-enabled smartphone, the Galaxy Note II.

As you may recall, TecTiles can be used for any number of tasks including launching applications, sending text messages, changing phone settings, and much more. With TecTile 3.0, you'll get plenty of new features as well as deeper integration with more apps. In addition, the new app lets you program a string of commands to a single TecTile.

TecTile 3.0 also introduces the idea of profiles. With this feature, you can program a TecTile to perform customized actions that are specific to each user. For example, TecTile users in an office can create their own "meeting" profile that changes phone settings to that user's preferences. By placing a single TecTile programmed to launch a custom "meeting" profile in the conference room, each user who taps the TecTile can have his or her phone settings changed according to his or her preferences.

Other new features with TecTile 3.0 include the ability to create private TecTile tags, unlock previously locked TecTiles, change additional phone settings, and more.
