Samsung’s Galaxy S4, 2012-Era Galaxy Note 2 To Receive Android 5.0 Lollipop

Android 5.0 Lollipop was officially rolled out in early October and smartphone OEMs are already pushing out the major operating system update to their newest smartphones. Google’s Nexus devices have been graced with Lollipop goodness and Motorola, which had close ties to Google before being bought by Lenovo, has updated a number of its devices to Lollipop.

We already knew that Samsung has plans in place to bring Lollipop to its 2014-model smartphones like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, but what is extremely surprising is that the South Korean electronics giant is going all the way back to 2012 to support the Galaxy Note 2. GSM Arena first noticed the revelation courtesy of Samsung’s Finnish support website, meaning that this information is coming straight from the horse’s mouth rather than from leaks or questionable sources.

The support site shows that the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Note 3, and the aforementioned Galaxy Note 4 will all receive Lollipop. Other Lollipop recipients include the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S5 mini, and the recently released Galaxy Alpha.

The Galaxy S3, which was released just a few months before the Galaxy Note 2, unfortunately won’t be receiving a Lollipop upgrade.

There is no ETA for when customers can expect to receive these OTA updates, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t land some time during the first half of 2015.
