Samsung’s Next Big Galaxy Device Drops Into Orbit On August 2nd

Samsung Unpacked

Samsung has begun sending out invitations to members of the press for its next Unpacked event scheduled for August 2, 2016. There will be a livestream of the event beaming out from New York starting at 11:00 AM Eastern, during which time Samsung will unveil its next Galaxy device. Simultaneous launches will take place in Rio de Janeiro at 12:00 PM and in London at 4:00 PM.

The South Korean electronics maker confirmed that it's next Galaxy handset will be the Galaxy 7 Note. Wondering what happened to the Galaxy 6 Note? Samsung decided to skip a number for the first time since it started releasing Galaxy smartphones so that its Note phablet series would align with its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones. It's to prevent confusion for consumers who might otherwise assume the Note series is a generation behind Samsung's flagship smartphones.

"First and foremost though, you might be curious as to why it’s called Galaxy Note 7 instead of Galaxy Note 6. There are a couple reasons why. First, the Galaxy Note 7 will complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note 7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone," Samsung said.

Samsung Note 7

Samsung didn't offer any real hints as to what to expect from its forthcoming Galaxy Note 7, other than to say it will come with the added functionality of the S Pen and a large display.

"The Galaxy Note 7 is a powerful instrument for achievement and self-expression, and is made for those who want to get the most from their phones—and their lives," Samsung said.

Press renders of the Galaxy Note 7 leaked to the web last week. If those renders turn out to be legit, you can expect the Galaxy Note 7 to initially be available in three color options, those being Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral. The Galaxy Note 7 is also rumored to sport a 5.8-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 823 SoC, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, microSD card slot, USB Type-C connector, and a big capacity 4,000 mAh battery.
