SanDisk Drops USB Requirement With Battery-Powered Connect Wireless Storage Stick

It goes without saying that USB-based flash drives have proven to be an absolute boon to the management - and portability - of our storage. Remember the chore of having to burn a CD to bring data from one PC to another? That requirement was long gone with the advent of flash drives, and even today, well over a decade since their introduction, they prove to be an important part of portable data for many.

But, as things go with technology, times change. Mobile is now bigger than ever, and so too is the need to wirelessly transfer data. Wouldn't it be great if we could have the best of both worlds? With SanDisk's Connect Wireless Stick, we can.

This modest flash drive can both plug into a PC for hard access, or be accessed through a Wi-Fi hotspot. While at home, it could be used like any other flash drive, but because the wireless requires a battery charge to work, it'd probably be best that you'd leave it plugged in as often as possible, to keep it fully charged.

With densities available up to 128GB, this flash drive is hardly a slouch - it gives people the best of both worlds, lots of storage, and two ways to access the data. SanDisk says that you could even stream three movies at once using this drive, although oddly, there's no mention made of expected battery-life.

If you think that a drive like this would cost a premium, you're absolutely right. While 128GB drives cost about $40, the 128GB model Connect Wireless Stick is priced at $100. Another caveat: it's USB 2.0, not 3.0, which is a bit strange to see in 2015.
