Seagate Announces 4TB GoFlex Drive, Digital Packrats Sully Their Drawers

Somebody had to go and be the first to ship a 4TB external hard drive, and someone at Seagate sat around one day thinking, "Hey, why not us?" Why not indeed, and so Seagate today becomes the first to ship such an enormous amount of storage in an external drive. The company's new 4TB GoFlex Desk external hard drive is sleek, a little bit sexy, and ready to handle a mountain of data.

"Yet another industry first for Seagate, we have reached a new high-capacity in the 3.5-inch hard drive form factor. At Seagate, we are committed to pushing the limits for our customers and will continue to adapt and innovate our products based on customer needs," said Patrick Connolly, vice president and general manager of Retail products for Seagate. "This latest GoFlex Desk drive offering, with its new industry-leading capacity point, is a statement of our continued commitment to meet consumer needs."

Fancy yourself a movie buff? No worries, Seagate says you can shovel over 2,000 high definition flicks onto its 4TB GoFlex unit, and let's not wear our numpad punching in the number of high res photos you can shuttle to this thing. No matter how you slice it, 4TB is a lot of storage space, and to ensure you're sitting around all day waiting for file transfers to take place, Seagate outfitted the GoFlex with a USB 3.0 adapter.

All that's left is the price, which is $250 MSRP.
