Seagate Launches FireCuda Gaming SSD, BarraCuda Fast SSD USB-C Storage Solutions For Enthusiasts

The FireCuda Gaming SSD takes the existing FireCuda PCIe NVMe 510 SSD and hooks it up with a USB 3.2 Gen2×2 interface (SuperSpeed USB 20Gb/s). Seagate says that the storage solution will deliver read speeds topping out at 2GB/sec. According to the company, the FireCuda Gaming SSD will be available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

The SSD is nestled within a metal chassis that is adorned with customizable RGB LED lighting; this is a gaming peripheral after all. Lighting schemes can be programmed with the Seagate Toolkit software, and can even sync with the FireCuda Gaming Dock, which was announced last year. Seagate says that the FireCuda Gaming SSD is priced at $190, $260, and $500 respectively for 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

Seagate also announced that it is delivering the BarraCuda Fast SSD in the same capacities as the FireCuda Gaming SSD. But whereas the FireCuda Gaming SSD using a PCIe interface within its enclosure, the value-minded BarraCuda Fast SSD uses a slower SATA-based SSD. As a result, read speeds top out at "just" 540MB/sec. You'll hook the BarraCuda Fast SSD up to your PC using a USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port, and it includes non-programable green LED lighting to add a splash of style.

Given its lower performance, pricing for the BarraCuda Fast SSD is similarly cheaper, coming in at just $95, $170, and $300 respectively for the 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations. Seagate says that the FireCuda Gaming SSD and BarraCuda Fast SSD families will launch in March and February respectively.
