Sega Genesis Mini Will Get Its Retro Gaming Groove On With 42 Titles, Here's The Full List

Sega Genesis Mini
Sega has revealed a full list of games that will come included with its upcoming Genesis Mini console. Having just announced a dozen new titles, including two bonus games—Darius and Tetris—the complete list is finalized at 42 games. That is up from the 40 games that Sega is still pitching on the Genesis Mini's product page.

That is a robust library, and as you might imagine, there is a nice mix of genres. Whether you remember playing Shinobi 3, beating up bad guys in Streets of Rage 2, or becoming Mickey Mouse in Castle of Illusion, you will be able to relive those moments.
The 12 additional games that were just announced include...
  • Tetris
  • Darius
  • Road Rash II
  • Strider
  • Virtua Fighter 2
  • Alisia Dragoon
  • Columns
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • Kid Chameleon
  • Monster World IV
  • Light Crusader
  • Eternal Champions
These new additions join the other 30 titles that had already been announced. Those games include the following...
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  • Thunder Force 3
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi 3
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthwork Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker
  • Mega Man: The Wily Wars
  • Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition
  • Ghouls 'n Ghosts
  • Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
  • Beyond Oasis
  • Golden Axe
  • Phantasy Star 4: The End of the Millennium
  • Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball
  • Vectorman
  • Wonder Boy in Monster World
That is quite the list, with more than a few gems. All of them will come preloaded on the Genesis Mini. The console itself is plug-and-play ready via HDMI, with 720p (HD) and 480p support. One thing that is also worth pointing out—this is a first-party retro console, meaning Sega did not hand off the design to a third-party.

Sega Genesis Mini Hand

Whether the Genesis Mini can capture the same magic as Nintendo's NES Classic and SNES Classic remains to be seen. Those proved to be huge successes for Nintendo, and obviously Sony would be thrilled if gamers flocked to its Genesis Mini in the same manner.

The console will come with two classic wired 3-button controllers, a USB power adapter, power and HDMI cables, and of course the console (with games) itself. It is available to preorder now for $79.99 and will be released on September 19, 2019.
