Silent Circle’s Ultra-Secure Blackphone 2 Now Available For Privacy Freaks

Silent Circle is kicking off the week with a new smartphone, the Blackphone 2. Like the original, the second generation Blackphone puts privacy and security front and center by offering full device encryption through the company's Silent OS, a custom version of Android intended for enterprise customers.

The Blackphone 2 sports a much better spec sheet than its predecessor. It has a 5.5-inch Full HD 1080p IPS display protected with Gorilla Glass 3, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 oca-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, and a 3,060 mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology.

"The launch of Blackphone 2 is a game changer for the mobile sector and for the way we provide individual and enterprise privacy," said Bill Conner, President and CEO of Silent Circle. "Blackphone 2 combines an enhanced Android operating system with a suite of apps designed to keep your enterprise and personal information separate and private. We're proud to deliver a safe and sexy device with a seamless user experience."

Blackphone 2 incorporates Google Services into the mix, including the Play Store, and supports Google's Android For Work program. It's also certified with existing MDM systems, including MobileIron, Citrix, Good, and SOTI.

To prevent users from being overwhelmed with managing the various security and privacy settings, Silent Circle equipped Blackphone 2 with a built-in Security Center that puts them all in one place. Through the Security Center, users can fine tune app permissions and the data apps have access to. And in the event of a loss or stolen phone, there's a remote wipe setting.

Apparently this level of privacy doesn't come cheap -- Silent Circle's asking price is $799.
