Samsung SmartThings Family Expands With New Smart Cameras, Wall Plugs And Light Bulbs
Internet-connected home security cameras have been around for a while with some of the most popular models coming from Ring, Google, Netgear/Arlo, among others. Samsung is now stepping into the connected camera segment with its SmartThings Cam.
Samsung says that the SmartThings Cam is a smarter way to monitor homes with a premium device which the company says is available at an "approachable price." The SmartThings Cam sells for $89.99 and is available nationwide starting today. It is an indoor camera with the ability to see in the day or night with a 145-degree, wide-angle field of view.
The Cam records video in full HD 1080p resolution with HDR. It also features integrated two-way audio that allows communication via a smartphone and can be controlled via the SmartThings App. Samsung bundles the cam with 24 hours of cloud storage at no cost with support for up to four SmartThings cameras. A premium 30-day cloud storage upgrade is available for $7.99 monthly or $79.99 yearly and supports up to eight SmartThings Cams.
Samsung has also added a revised SmartThings WiFi Smart Plug and SmartThings Bulb. The Cam and Plug do not require the Samsung SmartThings Hub; they connect and are managed via a home WiFi network, the bulb does require the smartthings Hub. The SmartThings WiFi Smart Plug sells for $17.99 and allows whatever is connected to it to be turned on and off via an app or voice assistants. Anything can be plugged into it like lamps, electronics, or small appliances. Smart Things Smart Bulb sells for $9.99. The bulb produces what Samsung calls "warm, white light," is dimmable, and can be controlled via voice assistants.
