Nintendo Pumps Brakes On NES And SNES Monthly Releases For Switch Online

Nintendo Switch fans who have been waiting to play some of the old-school Super NES games on the Switch have to wait no more. Nintendo has made the first 20 SNES games live on the Switch console. As exciting as the first 20 games are, the launch of those titles also brings a bit of bad news.

Nintendo has confirmed that while more SNES games will be coming to the Switch in the future, the new launches won't be on a regular schedule. No schedule is a change compared to how Nintendo operated when it added the NES games to the Switch with a few coming every month.

Making things even worse for fans is that the NES monthly schedule is now out the door as well. Currently, there are about 50 NES games on the Switch Online service. The full lineup of SNES games on the console is below:

  • Brawl Brothers
  • Breath Of Fire
  • Demon's Crest
  • F-Zero
  • Joe And Mac 2: Lost In The Tropics
  • Kirby's Dream Course
  • Kirby's Dream Land 3
  • Pilotwings
  • Star Fox
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Super EDF: Earth Defense Force
  • Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Puyo Puyo 2
  • Super Soccer
  • Super Tennis
  • The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

A Nintendo Switch Online account is required to play the new SNES games and the existing NES titles. A membership will cost you $4 monthly or $20 for a year. Amazon Prime members can get a free year membership via Twitch Prime
