Sony: All Our 60 Gig Base Are Belong To You

Sony has a two tier model and pricing structure for their Playstation3 consoles. They sell their old model with the 60 gigabyte hardrive for US $499, and a modestly more powerful 80 gigabtye model for $599. According to Sony Games President David Kararaker, Sony has shipped all the 60 gigabyte consoles they are ever going to make, and once they are gone from store shelves, that's it.

Sony has alluded to a price drop after the 60 gigabyte model has sold out, but nothing official has been announced yet.
"We won't be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated," said a Sony representative.
By no longer stocking the US$499 model in its warehouses, Sony is making the $599 bundle version the only model available to consumers after the 60 gigabyte sku sells out.

Let me see if I get this straight. As soon as we all buy all the 60 gig models left on the shelves, Sony's  probably going to drop the 80 gig model to the price I just paid for the 60 gig model. HotHardware can only suggest that when you go to purchase a Playstation 3, you bring a hostage negotiator with you. This situation will make some sort of sense to them, perhaps.
