Sony Playstation Vue Streaming TV Services Launches In Dallas, Miami

Sony is expanding its PlayStation Vue service to the Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami-Fort Lauderdale areas, the company announced. If you're scratching your head wondering what in the flip PlayStation Vue is, don't feel bad -- it's a relatively new offering that's only available in select areas, and one that hasn't seen any kind of heavy marketing efforts.

PlayStation Vue is a streaming web TV service for cord cutters (it doesn't require a cable or satellite TV subscription) available through PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles. Sony launched the service earlier this year, though unlike Sling TV, which is available all over the place in the U.S., PlayStation Vue plans are only available in a handful of cities. In addition to the two territories mentioned above, PlayStation Vue plans are offered in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.

Subscribers can choose from three plans, including Access ($50/month), Core ($60/month), and Elite ($70/month). The least expensive plan offers over 60 channels of live TV, including live local broadcasts. It's more expensive than Sling TV, though it's also more robust, both in the number of channels and features, such as being able to save shows to Sony's cloud DVR.

The Core and Elite packages up the ante with even more channels, bumping the total up to more than 70 and 85 channels, respectively. Users can also add Showtime for $11/month ($9/month for PlayStation Plus members) with a free 30-day trial, which is available nationwide with or without a PlayStation Vue package.

Sony's also planning to add Fox Soccer Plus through PlayStation Vue later this summer. It will be available as a standalone channel for $15/month, or $13/month for PlayStation Plus members.
