Sony has announced that the latest update for the PlayStation 4 is coming this week around the world. The new software will take the PS4 to system version 7.00. The update brings with it key system features, including features for Party and Remote Play. Sony notes that a number of the new features, including the enhanced Party play, were unveiled in beta earlier this summer.

The Party Feature Update makes it easier for players who enjoy playing along with their friends and community members to set up a Party. The updated Party feature includes key changes like the maximum number of Party users increased to 16 people. Network connectivity has been improved. Sony has improved Audio quality and has accessibility support with Chat Transcription available in the States.

Sony says that within the new Party feature, players will experience better network connectivity and audio quality, and the back end has improved connectivity and allows users to overcome connectivity issues previously experienced when connecting to other users. The Party App also offers a new Chat Transcription feature for U.S. users via the PS4 Second Screen App on the smartphone or mobile device.

The transcription feature only supports U.S. English and converts the party voice chat to text. It also allows the user to enter the text that is read aloud to other party members. The new functionality is found on mobile devices connected to the PS4 during a Party under the new Party tab.

Remote Play has been improved and now supports smartphones and tablets running Android 5.0 and higher. The PS4 Remote Play app is on the Google Play store for download. The version offered for iPhone and iPad users is updated to allow the display of the controller at all times and lock the screen orientation.

Remote Play also now supports DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth on Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac computers. The devices must be on Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina set to land in October. Last summer, the PS4 became the fastest game console to sell 100 million units.
