Sony Slashes PlayStation VR Bundle Pricing To $299

Sony PlayStation 4 Doom VFR Bundle

One of the barriers to VR gaming is the cost of entry. It's generally been cheaper to dive into VR on the console side of things versus buying an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive for use with a PC, but it is still not a cheap endeavor. In an effort to bring more people into the fold, and as a natural progression of niche market seeing some maturation, Sony is the slashing the starting price of its PlayStation VR bundles to $299.99 in the United States and Europe.

"This new pricing provides an even greater value for PlayStation fans at a perfect time, with must-play PS VR titles like Moss and Sprint Vector. There is also plenty to look forward to this year like Firewall Zero Hour, Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, WipEout Omega Collection, Blood & Truth and many others," Sony stated in a blog post announcing the updated MSRP for its PlayStation VR bundles.

There are two PlayStation VR bundles available at reduced pricing. One is the PlayStation VR Doom VFR Bundle and the other is the PlayStation VR The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR Bundle. As the names suggest, Doom VFR is included with the former and Skyrim VR comes with the latter. Both also come with a PS VR headset, PlayStation Camera, and PS VR Demo Disc 2.0.

The Doom VFR bundle is the one that costs $299.99, while the Skyrim bundle runs $349.99, both of which are $100 cheaper than they were previously. Sony's Skyrim bundle is a little more expensive because it also includes a pair of PlaySTation Move controllers, whereas those accessories are not included in the Doom VFR bundle. Those normally sell for $99.99 by themselves if purchased separately.

If you are interested in one of the bundles, check Sony's website or whichever retailer you prefer starting tomorrow, March 29, which is when the new pricing goes into effect.
