Sony Opens Xperia 1 4K Smartphone Preorders With Free Bundled XM3 Headphones

Sony unveiled its Xperia 1 smartphone back in February, and the big claim to fame for the device was its 4K display. Several months later, the smartphone is finally up for preorder, and according to Amazon, the Xperia 1 will ship July 12. There is still a big catch to the Xperia 1 in that Sony doesn't have the best name in the smartphone realm and the device sells for $949.99, which is on par with high-end devices like the iPhone and Galaxy smartphones. Sony knows that it will need a value add to lure buyers to the Xperia 1 over other flagship devices, and its offer is a free set of headphones.

The headphones offered to all who preorder the device aren't basic headphones either; they are the Sony WH1000XM3 noise-canceling headphones alone sell for $350. The caveat to the free headphones offer is that you must preorder the smartphone during the two-week preorder window that is open now. You also have to purchase from an authorized retailer, including Amazon, Best Buy, Beach Camera, B&H Photo, and Focus Camera.

The Xperia 1 smartphone has a 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with a 21:9 Cinema Wide aspect ratio. The front camera is an 8MP unit, and the rear camera is a 12MP triple lens unit with Eye autofocus and the ability to shoot bursts at up to 10 fps. The smartphone camera also offers AF/AE tracking and enhanced Creator mode. Dolby Atmos sound is supported, and the phone has a Gamer Enhancer mode.

The SoC the smartphone uses is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 paired up with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot. The OS is Android 9.0, and the battery has 3,300 mAh of juice. The smartphone is unlocked and works on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and other networks, but surprisingly, not Sprint.
