Sony Xperia XZ3 Rocks Gorgeous 6-inch OLED Display And Ships With Android 9 Pie

When it comes to flagship smartphones, Sony doesn't often get mentioned in the same breath with the likes of Samsung and Apple, or even Huawei and Xiaomi. However, that doesn't mean that the company is no longer putting out quality hardware. In fact, the company's new Xperia XZ3 shows that it can still build a smartphone that competes with the best that its Android rivals have to offer.

We first got an early glimpse at the XZ3 earlier this month, and today we're getting a full look at the new flagship. As expected, this smartphone is rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB of RAM, while internal storage comes in at 64GB (microSDXC is supported up to 512GB). The XZ3 leapfrogs its predecessor's 5.7-inch 2160x1080 LCD in favor of a 2880x1440 OLED panel with an 18:9 aspect ratio (it's covered in Gorilla Glass 5).

Out back, you'll find a single 19MP camera with LED flash. This camera is capable of shooting videos in 4K HDR and can even do 960fps slo-mo. Just below the rear camera is the requisite fingerprint reader. Up front, there's a 13MP selfie camera with protrude mode and the ever-popular bokeh effect.

Other features on tap include IP68 water/dust resistances, support for dual nano SIMs, a 3,330 mAh battery (which is an upgrade from the 3,180 mAh battery found on the XZ2), and wireless charging support. Best of all, the XZ3 will ship with Android 9 Pie fresh out of the box. It's not that often that we see smartphone OEMs embrace the latest version of Android so early, but we shouldn't be too surprised -- Sony has was in on the Android P Developer Preview early in the game when it was first announced.

According to Sony, the Xperia XZ3 will be available for pre-order from Amazon in the United States starting on September 24th, and will ship on October 17th. As for pricing, the XZ3 will be available for $900. While that's a lofty price to pay for a flagship device, Sony is throwing in a free pair of Xperia Ear Duo headphones for those that pre-order early (while supplies last).
