Sony Xperia Z4v Hits Verizon Wireless With Snapdragon 810, QHD Display, 20.7MP Camera
It gets a little confusing when trying to keep up with Sony's latest Xperia Z series handsets. Just last month, Sony released the Xperia Z3+, a global model of the weather resistant Xperia Z4. Now we have the Xperia Z4v, which is yet another version of the handset for Verizon. However, the Xperia Z4v and the Xperia Z3+/Z4 aren't the same.
Sony upgraded the display on the Xperia Z4v for Verizon with a much higher resolution. While its previous devices have unexciting Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) panels, the Xperia Z4v boasts a QHD display, packing significantly more pixels into the same 5.2-inch screen. In fact, it's Sony's first Android smartphone to feature a 2560x1440 resolution.
Powering the QHD panel is the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 System-on-Chip (SoC) and 3GB of RAM. It also has 32GB of built-in storage, microSD card slot, 20.7MP rear-facing camera, 5MP front shooter, NFC support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, native USB tethering, and a beefier battery (3,000 mAh) that can be charged wirelessly. Beyond the display resolution, bigger battery, and wireless charging capability, the other difference is that the Xperia Z4v is slightly thicker than the Xperia Z3+/Z4.
The real selling point of the Xperia Z4 is that like the Xperia Z3+/Z4, it's dust-tight and waterproof. That makes it a great option for active types who don't want to have to baby their smartphones against the elements.
Verizon will offer the Xperia Z4 later this summer in black and white color options. The wireless carrier hasn't yet said how much it will cost.
