Spain Becomes Latest Country To Give Uber The Boot

It appears that Uber is giving up its expansion efforts into Spain, at least for now. The app-based transportation company announced that it would be temporarily halting its efforts in Spain in response to a court injunction against Uber from the Association Madrileña Del Taxi.

“Today we have received the formal ruling and, in compliance with the December 9th order from the commercial judge and in respect of the law, we are temporarily suspending uberPOP in Spain while we appeal the court ruling and look to develop new options to give Spaniards access to safe, reliable rides,” a statement reads from Uber’s blog.

Uber went on to say that, during the temporary suspension, it would be collaborating with Spanish politicians to “developer the modern framework needed to create a permanent home for Uber and the sharing economy.”

The company has faced opposition from taxi companies, governments, and its own employees over its practices. Uber has been slapped with a class action lawsuit over its $1 Safe Rides Fee, Portland is suing the company, and Uber has even experienced some self-inflicted wounds.
