Sprint 5G Network Lights Up in New Cities As OnePlus 7 Pro 5G Lands

Sprint has announced that it has turned on its 5G network in three new markets. The new markets include New York City, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C. Those cities are now live in addition to the previously launched cities including Kansas City, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas-Fort Worth. Sprint says that its "true 5G" network in the new cities is running Nokia 64T64R 5G Massive MIMO radios.

Those radios have a split mode that allows Sprint to offer LTE Advanced and 5G New Radio (NR) service on the 2.5GHz mid-band spectrum. Those radios are being deployed on the existing 4G cell sites to provide a nearly identical footprint for the 2.5GHz LTE and 5G NR coverage.

As the Sprint 5G network is growing, the carrier has added another 5G capable smartphone to its portfolio. Starting today, Sprint is offering the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G smartphone at True Mobile 5G market retail stores and online. Starting on September 6, the smartphone will be offered via all retail channels. The device is being offered for a limited time at $20 monthly with $0 down on the Sprint Flex lease.

The smartphone uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 5G modem inside offering download speeds of up to 2Gbps. The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G smartphone offers the same hardware, aside for the 5G modem, as the OnePlus 7 Pro. That means a Snapdragon 855 SoC, 6.67-inch 90Hz display, 4000 mAh internal battery, and 256GB of storage. We heard earlier this month that Sprint was set to roll out a mystery OnePlus 5G device and speculated the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G might be the device, and it is.
