When you are in fourth place among the America’s top four wireless carriers, you need to do something to stand out from the crowd. If you can’t best your rivals on speed, service quality or coverage, the best target to aim for is pricing. Sprint is doubling down on its “value” positioning today with the announcement of a new promotion that provides five lines of data for just $90 per month.

That $90 pricing will get you unlimited data, calling and texting for each line. In order to take advantage of the pricing, you will have to sign-up for AutoPay for the first line, after which you’ll pay $50 per month. Adding a second person takes the total to $90 per month. Adding the third, fourth and fifth lines are free during this promotional period, which means that you’ll pay $90 a month no matter if you have two lines or five lines.

A competing five-line plan on T-Mobile will cost you $180 per month, while the same costs $270 per month on AT&T (and you have to add DirecTV service to even have the privilege of adding unlimited data). And as Sprint rightly points out, Verizon no longer offers customers to sign-up for new unlimited plans.

As with any deal that seems a little too good to be true, there’s plenty of fine print to read. For starters, this promotional pricing is only available until March 31st, 2018. After that point, you will pay $60 per month for the first line, and lines 2 through 5 will each set you back an additional $30 per month taking the total cost to $180 per month.

“Sprint understands the value of unlimited data to our customers,” said Roger Solé, Sprint chief marketing officer. “Customers do more with their phones every day and they want to use them without limits. With our new offer, you can sign up for a plan that allows you to surf and stream all you want and not worry about overage fees and charges. So why not use your wireless device to its full potential to enjoy things you love like Snapchat, social media, Twitter, watching video, texting and calling – all on our highly reliable network.”

This is an interesting ploy by Sprint to reduce customer churn, but it remains to be seen if this limited-time offer will be enough to pick off customers from its larger rivals.
