Sprint Rolls Out Lollipop Updates For Samsung Galaxy S5 And HTC One M7

Devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop now making up 1.6 percent of the entire Android install base. That’s still a far cry from the 39.7 percent running Android 4.4 KitKat or the combined 44.5 percent of users still on Jellybean (4.1, 4.2, 4.3). Lollipop’s numbers are about to get a nice boost now that U.S. carriers are starting to update their smartphones.

We learned earlier this week that Verizon Wireless is pushing its Lollipop update to the Samsung Galaxy S5, and we’re learning today that Sprint is giving some Lollipop lovin’ to Galaxy S5 and HTC One M7 users. Sprint’s Galaxy S5 update weighs in a 898.44MB and carries the version number G900PVPU1AOA6. The update for the HTC One M7 is 702.52MB and carries the version number 7.17.1540.7.

The good news for Sprint users is that these aren’t the only Lollipop updates coming during the month of February. Android Central is reporting that the HTC One M8 and LG G3 will receive their Lollipop updates on February 13 and February 16 respectively.

We’re quite impressed that Sprint is updating not one, but four smartphones to Lollipop within a few weeks time. Hopefully Sprint’s tenacity will put pressure on AT&T and T-Mobile to step up to the plate with Lollipop updates. We’re especially giving AT&T the stink eye as it recently pushed an update to the Galaxy S5, but it was just another flavor of KitKat: Android 4.4.4.
