Steam Community To Rate, Give Feedback On Titles Through Greenlight

Kickstarter has really changed the game, and in more ways than one. It's unlikely that Valve got this idea straight from the tech-funding site, but you have to admit that some of the best ideas from Kickstarter are also apparent here. The company's new Steam Greenlight is a wonderful new platform with near-endless opportunity for game devs. It's described as a platform that "enlists the community's help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam." Basically, it'll give devs and publishers the power and information necessary in order to present pitches to the community. If it's a hit, it may end up being released on Steam.

It's using Steam Workshop's system underneath, enabling customers to leave ratings and feedback. There's a huge exposure factor here as well; millions of people use Steam, so in theory, millions could see your work and give it a thumbs-up if it's great enough. Greenlight is scheduled to be greenlit on August 30th.
