Super Mario Odyssey Comes To Nintendo Switch In October, Metroid Prime 4 Inbound As Well

Nintendo says that Super Mario Odyssey will arrive on October 27^th, and marks the series’ return to the 3D sandbox-style adventure after a 15-yer absence. Nintendo whetted the appetites of fans around the globe with a new trailer for the game, which highlights one of Mario’s new tricks: his hat, which is named Cappy. Mario can toss Cappy onto other characters or enemies, allowing him to briefly take control of them to do his bidding. The images of a “Mario” Bullet Bill are already giving me unhappy flashbacks to Mario Kart.

Cappy will even let you control inanimate objects like a taxi and a tank, or even beastly animals like a T-Rex. It’s a rather interesting gameplay dynamic and we can’t wait to try it out. It was also confirmed to GameSpot that Super Mario Odyssey will have a multiplayer component, although Nintendo is being mum on details until closer to launch.

There are also a number of other games on tap for the Nintendo Switch, including Metroid Prime 4. Nintendo revealed absolutely nothing about the game other than its logo and the fact that the title is currently in development. The Metroid Prime series kicked off in 2002, and was followed up by Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 in 2004 and 2007 respectively. It’s been a decade since the last entry in the series debuted on the Wii, and gamers (judging by comments on social media sites like Twitter) are hyped about this development, although there is no word of when the game will actually be released.

Other big names in the Nintendo universe will be arriving over the next year. Pokkén Tournament DX will bring is arena fighting gameplay to the Switch on September 22^nd. Yoshi will return in a new side-scrolling game and the always-lovable Kirby will also land on the Switch — both will arrive in 2018. Two other titles include Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors.

If you’re already spent hours (if not days) absorbed in the vastness of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the first DLC pack, “The Master Trials”, will arrive on June 30^th.

For those that are concerned about third-party support for the Switch, Nintendo is telling gamers not to worry. Ubisoft’s Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle arrives August 29^th, while EA Sports FIFA 18 will land on September 29^th. Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Psyonix’s Rocket League will arrive for the platform during the holiday shopping season.

Even with a rather limited launch lineup, Nintendo Switch sales have been very strong, with the console selling out within minutes of availability within stores (both brick and mortar and online). The incoming lineup of first-and third-party titles should make the hybrid console even more a of “must have” item leading into 2018.
