Super Talent Debuts Second-Generation DuraDrive 2.5"/1.8" SSDs

Could there possibly be anything better than a first-generation SSD? Probably a second-generation SSD. As interface changes take place and companies are able to fine tune their products, there's only benefits to be had for consumers eager to upgrade. Super Talent has been in the solid state drive business for a long, long time, and this week they're introducing the second-generation DuraDrive.

The new DuraDrive ET2/ZT2 provide enhanced durability and performance compared to the original, with this design okay for use in scenarios considered "too harsh" for a standard drive. The DuraDrive series utilized Solid State Disk technology, meaning it performs faster, use less power, offers greater reliability, generate less heat, and require less cooling than their HDD counterparts, but this new one uses premium NAND Flash and has enhanced vibration and shock resistance. That'll keep your data safe even if the road ahead gets bumpy. The DuraDrive also has optional support for the Secure Erase features required for many Military and Industrial applications. With ECC/EDC support, bad bit management firmware and patented wear leveling technology, this drive offers extreme reliability and endurance; even in the most demanding of environments (-40oC to 85oC ).

On the performance end, Super Talent claims that this unit is twice as fast as the prior DuraDrive, reaching sequential R/W speeds of 125, 110 MB/s respectively. The ET2 is a 2.5" drive meant mostly for use in notebooks and other mobile products, and it's totally interchangeable with standard 2.5" PATA HDDs, while the ZT2 is made to fit in even smaller 1.8" bays while utilizing a ZIF connector. Sizes range from 16GB to 256GB, but no prices are being revealed yet.

Performance & Durability for Mission Critical Applications

San Jose, California - December 17, 2010 - Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced their new DuraDrive series SSDs.

The new DuraDrive ET2/ZT2 represents the next generation of industrial data storage solutions by offering enhanced durability, reliability and performance. The DuraDrive was designed for use in environments considered "too harsh" for a standard drive.

The DuraDrive series utilized Solid State Disk technology, meaning it performs faster, use less power, offers greater reliability, generate less heat, and require less cooling than their HDD counterparts. By carefully selecting the finest components available, including an advanced industrial controller and premium NAND flash, we are able to further enhance shock, vibration and temperature specifications making the DuraDrive ideal for mission critical markets.

Twice as fast as its previous versions, our new DuraDrive line of SSD's reach impressive sequential R/W speeds of 125, 110 MB/s respectively. DuraDrive SSD's enhanced reliability is ideal for industries associated with, but no limited too; the Medical industry, Casino gaming, Enterprise computing, Gaming, or embedded industrial systems.

Utilizing the industry standard 2.5-inch form factor and industry standard PATA (IDE) interface, the DuraDrive ET2 is 100% interchangeable with conventional 2.5-inch PATA hard drives.

The DuraDrive ZT2 was designed to fit into 1.8-inch bay and utilizes a ZIF connector.

The DuraDrive ET2 and ZT2 are now shipping!

The following options are available on the DuraDrive series:
# SLC - For increased Longevity and Reliability
# iTemp - Mission Critical often requires itemp (-40oC to +85oC )
# Secure Erase- for Sensitive Data, Don't just Erase it, Eradicate it with Secure Erase.
