Super Talent Introduces Padded SuperNova Solid State Drive for Server Farms

We don't tend to think of solid state drives as being overly susceptible to the dangers of heat, but then again, we're not running a toasty server farm or bombarding our SSDs with constant simulation applications. For those who do have a server farm to run, or are otherwise worried about longevity, Super Talent just introduced its SuperNova SSD Series with thermal conductive silicon padding.

The padding prevents overheating and requires less cooling, Super Talent claims. Other safety net features include S.M.A.R.T. monitoring, built-in encryption, and proprietary RAISE technology that Super Talent says "virtually eliminates unrecoverable read errors."

From a performance standpoint, the SuperNova family uses multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash chips and delivers read and write performance of up to 555MB/s and 525MB/s, respectively. The drives also boast up to 90,000 4KB random read IOPS and up to 85,000 4KB random write IOPS.

The SuperNova line ships in 128GB and 256GB capacities. No word yet on price.
