Surface Laptop 2 And Surface Pro 6 Leak Delivers Good And Bad News For Users
Tomorrow, October 2, is the day penciled in for Microsoft's Surface event that will toss new hardware onto the market for fans to check out. Leaks have hinted at what the event would bring, including some leaked images of the Microsoft Surface 2 Laptop in several colors. A new rumor has surfaced ahead of tomorrow's event, and the news is a bit unexpected. According to this rumor, Microsoft isn’t updating the Surface Laptop 2 and the Surface Pro 6 with USB-C (or Thunderbolt) ports.
Surface Laptop 2 and Surface Pro 6 are expected to get a refresh at the event, and they were both expected to both receive USB-C ports, which are pretty much expected at this point. This rumor claims that Microsoft is sticking with the mini DisplayPort and Surface Connector to connect to displays and charge the device. This rumor would confirm what was seen in the leaked images of the Surface Laptop 2 from MySmartPrice last month showing no USB-C port. The odd part is that the Surface Book 2 and Surface Go devices both have USB-C ports and not offering them on the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop would be a strange omission.
This rumor also suggests that all we will see on the refreshed devices at the event tomorrow is a spec bump. The base Surface Laptop 2 is expected to pack 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core i5 processor, and 128GB of storage. That's a nice update, with the base Surface Laptop previously only having 4GB of RAM. The base Surface Pro 6 is expected to feature 4GB of RAM and an Intel Core m3 CPU.
Both of those devices are tipped to ship in black colors, as seen in those leaked images mentioned. The catch for buyers excited about the black color is that only the high-end machines are expected to come in black. Surface users wanting something stealthier looking in the low-end may be out of luck. Tune in tomorrow for details on what Microsoft is cooking up.
