T-Mobile Jumps Onto The Black Friday Deal Train With Free iPhone XR

This Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, and with all the Black Friday deals that we have seen, it's been curious that none of the smartphone deals have offered service on T-Mobile. Sam's Club had a Samsung Early Access event where smartphones were on significant discount, but you had to activate on Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. Target and Best Buy had some deals on various iPhone models, but again T-Mobile wasn't offered as a carrier with any of those specials. T-Mobile has now tossed out its own Black Friday deals, and one of them is offering an iPhone XR at no cost.

That particular deal has a caveat with users wanting to partake needing to activate two lines of service and trade in an eligible smartphone to get the "free" iPhone XR. The discount is metered out via 36 monthly bill credits meaning you will need to stay with T-Mobile for three years to get the device for free. Eligible trade-in devices for the free iPhone XR include the iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8+, iPhone 7, iPhone 7+, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s +; devices must be in good condition according to T-Mobile. This deal sounds like a decent way to drum up interest in the iPhone XR, which hasn't been selling well leading to Apple allegedly cutting back on orders for the device.

If an iPhone XR isn't to your liking, a similar deal on a Samsung Galaxy S9 gets you the same 36 monthly bill credits when activating two lines and trading in an eligible device. If you want the Galaxy S9, the list of eligible devices is much longer and includes:

  • Samsung Galaxy S7, S7+
  • Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, S8 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy Note8
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 5
  • Samsung Galaxy S6, S6+
  • LG V30, V30+
  • LG G7
  • LG V20
  • LG G6
  • OnePlus 5, 5T, 6
  • Google Pixel
  • Google Pixel XL
  • Google Pixel 2
  • Google Pixel 2XL
  • Motorola Z2 Force
  • Motorola Z2 Play

Smartphone shoppers wanting to stay away from both Samsung and Apple products can get a free OnePlus 6T with bill credits doled out for 24 months with two lines activated and a trade device. Eligible trades include the same devices that you can trade for the Samsung Galaxy S9. Fans of LG devices can get a free LG V40 ThinQ or LG G7 ThinQ with credits metered out over 24 or 36 months, again with two lines activated and an eligible trade from the same list as the Galaxy S9 above. If you want a free smartphone, only want a single line, and don't have a device to trade, you can get the T-Mobile REVVL 2 at no cost or REVVL 2 Plus for $160 off. All of these deals require credit approval with T-Mobile stating they are for "well-qualified" customers; T-Mobile's deals hub is here.
