T-Mobile Launches $5 Per Month 4G LTE Smartphone Discount Program
T-Mobile is at it once again, and this time the company has unveiled its new SCORE! program which will cost its customers $5 per month and launches today. What does that $5 get you? Well, I’m glad you asked. T-Mobile says that after 6 months (and $30 into the program), you’ll be able to nab a “budget” smartphone for free. Once you’ve been in the program for 12 months, you’ll be able to receive a steeper discount on any 4G LTE smartphone in T-Mobile’s arsenal.
“SCORE! is a radically new Un-carrier approach to locking in lower costs on your next smartphone,” said T-Mobile CEO John Legere. “And, it’s yet another breakthrough improvement over the old-school carriers’ restrictive service contracts, hidden subsidy costs and slooooow upgrades.”
Customers will be able to grab an Alcatel OneTouch Evolve 2 for “free” after six months in the SCORE! program. Customers would essentially be receiving an $80 device for $30. After 12 months, customers will be able to take home an Alcatel OneTouch Fierce 2 for “free” (true cost: $66 after your $60 outlay). I don’t know about you, but a OneTouch Fierce 2 doesn’t exactly get my heart racing, so you can also select from a Samsung Galaxy S5 for $510 (an effective $40 discount) or a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for $600 (an effective $90 discount).
SCORE! is definitely not one of T-Mobile’s most exciting “Uncarrier” initiatives, but it does offer some tangible benefits if you plan to stick with the program for the long haul. SCORE! is open to all T-Mobile customers including those on it Simple Prepaid plans.
