T-Mobile OnePlus 6T Update Improves Camera And Fingerprint Reader Performance

The OnePlus 6T launched in October and was praised for its style, features, performance, and low price for a flagship device. When Samsung and Apple are selling their flagship devices for $1,000 or, the OnePlus 6T onto the market packing a big 6.41-inch OLED screen and an in-screen fingerprint reader for $549. It's hard to call that a bargain, but comparatively, it is. The device launched with an unlocked version being sold directly from OnePlus and a version that was locked to T-Mobile.

The T-Mobile version had some caveats compared to the unlocked flavor that OnePlus offered directly, namely that it would not receive software updates as quickly as the unlocked version would due to additional testing and qualification that T-Mobile required. T-Mobile OnePlus 6T buyers also didn't get to participate in the company's beta program. T-Mobile has rolled out a new update for its locked up version of the OnePlus 6T with OxygenOS build 9.0.1 available now.

That update brings tweaks to the camera app and an updated in-display fingerprint reader algorithm. Other updated features include face unlock optimizations, improved audio quality, and more. The update file is 110.2MB. The lag in T-Mobile rolling out OxygenOS updates has some users confused. The unlocked model is on OxygenOS 9.0.7 while T-Mobile is only now on 9.0.1, it's unclear if T-Mobile is that far behind the unlocked version or if T-Mobile is using a different number sequence, presumably it's that far behind. The update can be applied to the phone via the Settings - System -System Updates path.
