Tesla Model S P85D ‘Insane Mode’ To Get Even Faster With OTA Update

I think we’ve all be impressed with the performance credentials of the Tesla Model S P85D. The original P85 was already an incredibly capable performance sedan, but the “D” brought dual electric motors to the table along with all-wheel-drive. Needless to say, with 691hp and 687 ft-lbs of torque at your disposal (actually it’s more like 864 ft-lbs), the P85D’s acceleration is enough to frighten or delight unsuspecting passengers.

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk is not a person that is known to settle; it’s simply not in his DNA. Look no further than his aspirations to explore space with SpaceX and his forward-looking Hyperloop transport system. Musk won’t settle when it comes to the P85D either, hence his announcement via Twitter that that vehicle will get an over-the-air (OTA) software update to make it even faster.

Most vehicles require you to take them to the dealership to perform a software update, but Tesla has been dabbling with OTA updates for well over a year. And an OTA update like this one that unlocks even more performance is simply icing on the cake for P85D owners.

The fact that Elon Musk and his team of engineers are making great efforts to improve the performance of its existing vehicles, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for all-new vehicles in the pipeline like the mainstream Model III sedan.
