The Beatles Finally Grace Streaming Music Services Christmas Eve
It's going to be a merry Christmas for fans of The Beatles. At long last, they'll be able to stream hundreds of songs from the iconic band through a choice of nine different streaming services, including Apple Music, Amazon Prime Music, Deezer, Google Play Music, Microsoft Groove, Napster, Slacker Radio, Spotify, and Tidal.
The Beatles music has been curious absent from streaming services up to this point, and it was only in 2010 that the band's music finally made its way to iTunes, seven years after Apple introduced it to the world. It could (and still can) also be heard on YouTube, which boasts a pretty large collection of tracks.
Beginning Christmas Eve at 12:01 AM (local time wherever you're at), fans will have streaming access to 224 songs from 13 studio albums. The songs won't be limited to paid subscribers, either -- they'll be available on free versions, such as Spotify's ad-supported no-cost tier.
It's an interesting decision in the wake of Taylor Swift's battle with streaming services. Swift was insistent that Spotify limit access to her songs to paid subscribers only, and when Spotify refused, she pulled her catalog and lashed out at streaming in general as a "grand experiment."
"I'm not willing to contribute my life's work to an experiment that I don't feel fairly compensates the writers, producers, artists and creators of this music. And I just don't agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free," Swift told Yahoo Music at the time.
Other artists have also brought up concerns with streaming services, so it's refreshing to see The Beatles make such a big splash without concessions.
