The Beatles Invade Rock Band This September

Look out, Guitar Hero! Rock Band has swiftly and decidedly moved back into the lead with this one, and honestly, we have no idea how you're going to rival it. Yes, it's true. The Beatles, of all bands, are getting their very own installment of Rock Band, and considering that only Elvis Presley is on the same level of name recognition with these guys, the pickings are slim for the Guitar Hero franchise to hit back with any sort of competition.

Somehow, someway, MTV Games managed to coerce those in charge of The Beatles to allow The Beatles: Rock Band to be created. Described as an "unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles," the music-based game will be released simultaneously worldwide in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other territories this September for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii consoles. The magnitude of this release is better understood when looking at the incredible pressure it took to get Beatles tracks available as digital downloads; can you even imagine what kind of arm twisting went on to get 45 of the band's songs from its 1962 to 1969 EMI catalog onto a video game?

The release date has been set for 09/09/09, and while the game itself will sell for $59.99 on each system, you'll probably want to spring for the Limited Edition Premium Bundle -- which includes all of the instruments -- for $249.99. Oh, and speaking of instruments, The Beatles: Rock Band will offer a limited number of new hardware offerings modeled after instruments used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr throughout their career. It goes without saying, but you should probably start saving your pennies -- this may be the one announcement from 2009 that pulls non-gamers into gaming more so than any other.
