The Elder Scrolls: Blades Takes Top Spot On iOS App Store Game Charts

The mobile gaming industry can sometimes be a strange place. Gamers will put up with tactics to squeeze money out of them in the mobile gaming realm that would never fly on the PC or traditional game consoles. There would be an immense uproar if Bethesda launched a console game that required players to wait three hours for a chest to open. Yet, in the mobile game world, gamers accept such tricks, which are simply ways for the free-to-play games to generate money by charging players to open chests more quickly. Despite the annoyances with The Elder Scrolls: Blades, the game has proven to be popular with iOS gamers.

A new report from Sensor Tower shows that Blades is the number one game on the download charts for iOS with an unspecified number of total downloads. We do know per the report that 42% of the downloads were from the U.S. for 420,000 total downloads. More than 150,000 of those downloads happened on one day - March 28. The game is also generating money for Bethesda in a big way.

While the game is still in Early Access, it has already grossed close to $500,000. Players based in the U.S. are spending the most with 76% of the total, or $380,000. The Sensor Tower report only offers data from iOS; total spending and downloads when Android gamers are added will be higher.

Early Access for the game kicked off for both iOS and Android on March 28. To gain access starting on that date required an email invite from Bethesda. The game is now open for Early Access by anyone with a Bethesda account. Bethesda has also promised to listen to player feedback and rebalance the game.
