The Hard Disk That Changed the World
There is a great article available at MSNBC regarding the 50th anniversary of IBM's RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control); the ancestor to today's hard drives. It's amazing to see how much progress we've made in 50 years. Today's largest single desktop hard drives offer roughly 150,000 times the capacity, in a tiny fraction of the space, and for very little money, relatively speaking. You have to love technology.

On Sept. 13, 1956, IBM shipped the first unit of the RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control) and set in motion a process that would change the way we live."
