My, how these tiny PCs-on-a-stick are proliferating. The latest flash drive-sized mini computer is the Pocket TV from Infinitec, a dedicated HDMI dongle designed to convert any TV into a Smart TV with Android 4.0.

The device fits neatly into the palm of the hand and features a 1GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor, Mali-400MP HD 1080p graphics, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot supporting up to 32GB of additional storage, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. Ports include mini USB, HDMI 1.3 out, and a USB 2.0 input for connecting all manner of devices, including a keyboard, mouse, or the Infinitec air remote.

If the videos posted on the Kickstarter page (50 bonus points if you can spot the Hot Hardware cameo) are any indication, the Pocket TV indeed delivers what is essentially a giant Android experience, complete with access to the Google Play store and the ability to run thousands of apps, including games, Skype, and media streaming services. Obviously, there are no touch capabilities, but Infinitech developed remote controls as a substitute. Each Pocket TV will ship with an IR remote, but it also sells the Air Remote, which looks quite a bit like the business end of a slider phone.
A big selling point of the device is that it’s portable, so you can slap it into any TV, anywhere--on vacation, in the boardroom, at your parents’ house, etc.--and you have your computer up there on the screen.


At this point, the Pocket TVs are ready for production, and with sufficient funds raised from the Kickstarter campaign, they’re now ready for preorder on the site. It looks like the basic Pocket TV package will cost $160.
