Third-Generation Motorola Moto G Drops Its Robe For The Cameras

With the success of both the first- and second-generation Moto G, it's seemed certain that the series would be continuing on for a while. Today, we get our first proof that a third-generation model is in production. The reveal comes via YouTube user Antonio Inuso, who gained access to a prototype model. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for some additional high-quality images, as the video makes it really hard to appreciate the device's design.

The third-gen Moto G, or at least this prototype, has a different face than the previous two models, and it looks sharp overall. As the previous two Moto Gs had faces devoid of writing, I'd guess the writing on the front, including the logo, are special just to this prototype, and won't be on the final model.

Specs-wise, the third-generation Moto G doesn't show a big leap over the second-generation model, but it still looks great for what it should cost (~$200, like the earlier two). While it still has a 5-inch 720p display, the SoC has been bumped up to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410, which at the very least exhibits a clock boost of 200MHz, placing it at 1.4GHz.

What really sets this third-generation model apart from the others is that it has a 13 megapixel camera at the back, along with a dual-LED flash arrangement. I've been a faithful user of the original Moto G, and while I like it quite a bit overall, I absolutely loathe its horrible camera. Thus, I am quite interested in seeing how this new one fares in tests, because it might just convince me to upgrade.

There's no telling when this upcoming Moto G will be released, but it wouldn't be surprising to see it in early fall given how far along the development appears to be at this time. For comparison, the original Moto G was announced in November 2013, while the second-generation model bowed in September 2014.
