This Is The All-New 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray, And It Looks Absolutely Amazing

Well folks, here it is: the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, aka C8 Corvette. The vehicle isn't officially supposed to be unveiled until a little over an hour from right now, but as with most things these days, it has leaked early.

Just look at it. It looks downright amazing with its new mid-engine proportions. The Corvette Stingray is full of creases throughout: there are sharp creases across its frunk, along its sides, and even the huge air intakes on its hips are sharply raked and angular in nature. To our eyes, while the front 3/4 view is no doubt compelling, the rear 3/4 view is nearly as eye-catching.

The only "miss" to my eyes is the rather plain look of the rear deck from above which looks rather flat and shapeless. But most of us won't be getting a complete bird's eye view of the Corvette Stingray, so we'll let that pass. Speaking of that overhead view, you can also see the V8 engine nestled under a glass (or is it plastic) window.

The interior of the Corvette Stingray leaked earlier this afternoon, and shows an incredibly modern design that puts GM in a class with other supercars from Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini (among others). There's a huge digital instrument cluster behind the oddly-shaped steering wheel and another large LCD panel that sits off to the right that handles navigation and infotainment duties. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the cockpit is a narrow strip of buttons that runs down alongside the center console that controls everything from seat heaters to front/rear defroster settings.

As for the powertrain, according to Esquire, which leaked the details and pics of the Corvette Stingray before realizing its mistaking and pulling the article, the vehicle will initially be available with a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine that generates 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. It's mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and can send the Corvette Stingray from a standstill to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds with the Z51 Performance Package. Yowsers!

General Motors has outfitted the new Corvette with Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, and it even has an optional front-end suspension lift feature. This will lift the front end of the car to prevent you from scraping it on obstructions. The feature is GPS-linked, so that the front end will automatically life when you reach a certain area (i.e. your steep driveway). GM has put 19-inch wheels up front and 20-inch wheels out back.

The primary chassis is constructed out of aluminum to help save weight, and GM lists dry weight at 3,366 pounds. The top of the vehicle is removable (a Corvette hallmark) and there are two luggage compartments -- one up front, and one in the back. The back compartment can accommodate two golf bags, which is a must for many in the Corvette demographic.

When it comes to pricing, GM isn't being specific at this point, but did state that the 2020 Corvette Stingray will start at less than $60,000.
