Titanfall 2 Multiplayer Beta Stomps Onto Xbox One And PS4 Later This Month, PC Users Left Out

PC gamers who were hoping to test Titanfall 2 are out of luck. The Titanfall 2 multiplayer beta will be open to Xbox One And PS4 on August 19th - 21st and August 26th - 28th, but not open to PC. The super rad beta trailer which “welcomes back pilots” is not helping with the console envy.

The main point of the beta is to test stress Repawn Entertainment’s servers and prove whether or not they can scale. The company technically only needs test one platform since the servers are per-platform. However, it decided to open the beta to two different platforms in order to get even more results.

Why the heck will PC players be unable to participate in the open beta? Vince Zampella, Founder and CEO of Respawn Entertainment pegs the exclusion down to two reasons: hardware variety and “min spec” optimization. Respawn has not run the game through its hardware compatibility lab yet test to see whether the game could handle a large variety of hardware configurations. It also has not done enough work on the “min specs” for the game yet.

Respawn is also worried about leaks. Zampella remarked, “Also, because the single player story has some wonderful secrets that we really want to preserve for launch, we also have to worry about leaks. Our wonderfully curious PC players have proven in the past that they will dig out anything they can, and there's a risk that they could spoil some of our single player.”

Long story short, Titanfall 2 is simply not ready to be tested on PC (or hacked by PC players). Console gamers, enjoy your beta. PC gamers will silently envy and judge you over the next few weeks. Titanfall 2 will officially launch on October 28th.
