We learned this morning that Mass Effect: Andromeda is being delayed until 2017, but it looks as though Electronic Arts its right on track for a 2016 debut for Titanfall 2. The mech-infused game is scheduled to land during fiscal Q3 according to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, which means that it should blast onto B&M and digital store shelves somewhere between October and the end of December (barring any last-minute hiccups).

Interestingly enough, the launch timeframe will put Titanfall 2 right up against Battlefield 1, which will launch on October 21st. But Wilson isn’t worried about cannibalization and indicates that there is plenty of room in the $4.5 billion first-person shooter category for both games.

"There is a very broad and diverse set of players who play games in that category who are looking to fulfill different gameplay motivations," said Wilson. “We feel like we actually have a really strong position to deliver the broadest set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to first-person shooter genre across the two titles, and feel very confident that we are well-positioned to do very well in that category in the year.

"Certainly as you see, the reception around Battlefield 1 we feel very good about that. The energy around Titanfall 2 is also building very nicely, and we look forward to showing more of both of those titles at EA Play in June."

While Wilson isn’t concerned about Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 eating each other’s lunch, there are two other competing franchises that he’ll want to keep an eye on during [calendar] Q4: Gears of War and Call of Duty. Gears of War 4 is set to launch on October 11th, while Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare blasts off on November 4th.

However, Battlefield 1 might have a leg-up on Infinite Warfare as the latter has been bombarded with negative reaction from gamers and is currently the most disliked trailer on YouTube with over 1.7 million dislikes. Battlefield 1, on the other hand, is the most popular trailer ever on YouTube with over 1.3 million likes.
