T-Mobile Intros myTouch 3G Android Smartphone
Wow, talk about a sudden influx of new phone choices. Within the span of just a few weeks, American mobile users have been introduced to Palm's Pre on Sprint, Apple's iPhone 3GS on AT&T and now T-Mobile's myTouch 3G on (you guessed it) T-Mobile USA. Officially, this phone is the followup to the T-Mobile G1, the planet's first-ever Android-based cellular phone.
The myTouch 3G boasts an updated look and feel, with cleaner lines, more curves and support for T-Mobile's growing 3G network. Of course, the overall design still brings back clear memories of the G1, with a full touch-screen and a few hard buttons below. There's no slide-out keyboard, so you'll have to utilize the on-screen touch keyboard much like is used on the iPhone. T-Mobile touts the phone's ability to give users customization powers, and the Android Market is available to load your mobile up with all sorts of applications.
Another new feature is Sherpa, which features the GENIE learning engine that automatically customizes itself to the user’s preferences. Users simply use their phone in the way that suits them best, through behavior and user feedback, the application learns a person’s likes and dislikes, prioritizing recommended retailers, restaurants and attractions.
As for specifications, you'll find a 3.2" HVGA display, a 3.2MP camera, pre-installed 4GB microSD card, Wi-Fi and 3G access. It also provides easy access to both personal and corporate e-mail, including support for Exchange, Gmail and most other POP3 and IMAP e-mail services as well as synchronization with Google contacts and calendars. Current T-Mobile customers can pre-order the device on July 8 for $199.99 with a two-year agreement, with shipments starting in late July. Outside of that, national retail availability is planned for August.
