Toshiba Touts 3D-Ready Laptop
All aboard! It's time to jump on the 3D bandwagon, at least that's what Toshiba wants you to do, which is co-conducting the three-dimensional ride in the mobile market with its new Satellite A665 3D-ready laptop. And the the other co-pilot? That would be Nvidia, whose 3D Vision Technology provides the engine for this 3D ride.
Your ticket costs $1,600 and comes in the form of a 15.6-inch laptop with an LED backlit widescreen display and 120Hz scan rate. Toshiba managed to pack some respectable hardware into its latest Satellite, including an Intel Core i7 740QM processor, Nvidia GeForce GTS 350M graphics with 1GB of discrete GDDR3 memory, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 640GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Blu-ray burner, Harman/Kardon stereo speakers, built-in webcam with Toshiba Face Recognition, 5-in-1 memory card reader, and a 12-cell battery.
Also bundled in is Nvidia's 3D Vision kit consisting of active shutter 3D glasses and emitter. Where you go from there depends largely on the content makers, and according to Nvidia, a cornucopia of 3D goodies are on the way.
"3D Vision technology is for more than just PC gamers," said Phil Eisler, general manager of 3D Vision technology at Nvidia. "We are working closely with our partners to ensure a wealth of 3D content, including games, photos, movies, and even the Internet can be fully enjoyed on a 3D laptop."
