Toshiba XG5-P NVMe BiCS SSD Offers Blazing Fast Speeds In Capacities Up To 2TB

Toshiba has announced the new XG5-P NVMe SSD that promises fast speeds in capacities up to 2TB. The M.2 gumstick style NVMe SSD is based on 64-layer 3D BiCS NAND memory and Toshiba says that it's tuned for an improved full access range of random read/write performance with gains of up to 55% compared to standard Toshiba XG5 SSDs.

This flavor of Toshiba NVMe SSD is built to provide the sort of performance required by gamers and workstation professional content delivery workloads. Sequential read and write speeds are listed at 3,000 MB/sec and 2,200 MB/sec respectively, while random read and write IOPS top out at 320,000 and 265,000 respectively.

The XG5-P series uses a Toshiba in-house developed 1TB package solution that doubles the capacity of the standard G5 series on the same 2.23mm thick single-sided M.2 2280 module. The XG5-P series will be offered in 2TB and 1TB capacities, and self-encrypting drive variants that support TG Opal Version 2.01 will be offered for business that require security.

"Toshiba recognizes the need for engineering larger capacity, higher performance SSD solutions that target specific applications and use cases," said, Neville Ichhaporia, director of client and data center SSD marketing at TMA. "With our latest flagship XG5-P series, we have once again raised the bar in client SSD storage by delivering NVMe SSDs that take workstation, gaming and content creation performance to the next level."
