2020 Toyota Supra Gets Official Unveil With 335 HP, 0-60 In 4.1 Seconds

Enough with the damn leaks; here it is folks. Toyota has officially announced the 2020 Supra, two decades after the previous generation went out of production (for the U.S. market). The new 2020 Supra, which has the chassis code A90, takes many of the design themes of the FT-1 concept car from 2014 and melds them with the legendary Toyota 2000 GT and the fourth-generation Supra (A80).

The styling is defiantly a bit "eccentric", but it's a thoroughly modern design with sinuous hips, a raised up and protruding "snout", and a "ducktail" spoiler integrated into the rear hatch. The interior is not nearly as wildly styled as the exterior, and is all business. This can be mainly attributed to the fact that the donor platform for the 2020 Supra is the 2019 BMW Z4. As a result, you'll find some familiar BMW switchgear inside the cabin, and even the font used in the infotainment display is the same as you'd find in other BMW vehicles.

More importantly, Toyota has revealed official power and performance figures for the Supra, and they may be a tad bit disappointing for some. Power comes from a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine that puts out 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with flappy paddles. Toyota says that there is plenty of low-end torque available and that the vehicle will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds; top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Handling has been a priority for Toyota engineers, and the company is promising 50:50 front/rear weight distribution.

Adding to the handling capabilities of the vehicle are standard 19-inch forged allow wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (275/35R19 rear; 255/35R19 front). Brakes at all four corners are 13.7-inch discs with 4-piston Brembo calipers.

As for dimensions, the Supra rides on a 97.2-inch wheelbase and is just 172 inches in length. It's not exactly a featherweight machine, however, as its base curb weight is 3,397 pounds.

As we reported previously, pricing is as follows:

  • 3.0: $49,990
  • 3.0 Premium: $53,990
  • Launch Edition: $55,250

The Launch edition will be limited to just 1,500 units in the United States and will feature Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0 paint finishes along with side mirrors that are painted in contrasting red. There will only be two options available for the Supra: a driver assist package priced at $1,195 and a navigation and JBL audio package priced at $2,460 (only available on the base config).

All models of the 2020 Supra go on sale this summer.
